Lord Stanley

The Lord Stanley was situated on Hinton Road. This pub closed in the 1990s and has now been demolished.

My grandparents, Harry and Daisy Buck, ran this pub during and after the second world war. They moved here from The Man Of The World after it was bomb damaged. The Lord Stanley was also bomb damaged but the bar was intact and also one large room above which served as kitchen, lounge and bedroom for the parents and two daughters until the bedrooms could be repaired. The family ran the pub after the war until Harry Buck died and Daisy's attempt to keep it going resulted in financial problems.
