The White Swan, or Swan, was on the
south side of the Market Place and dates back to 1598. It was demolished in
1967. The name is commemorated in Swan Walk, a pedestrian walkway in the
shopping centre. |

The White Swan in Romford was the home
of the Romford Folk Club in the early to mid sixties, before the pub was
closed and it moved to the Elm Park Hotel (as it then was, not Tavern) in
Hornchurch. I spent many a pleasant evening there in my youth, listening to
a lot of the greats in British, Irish and American folk music. |
