Star Inn

Date of photo: 1920s

The Star Inn and attached brewhouse in the High Street were purchased by Edward Ind in 1799. The brewery became Ind Coope which was a major brewer until its closure in 1993. During the 19th century the Star was apparently demolished as the brewery expanded and a replacement Star rebuilt nearer to the railway. This Star appears to have been demolished in the 1930s when the railway was widened.

The Star Inn was demolished in the widening of Romford Station area in the 1930s, but it lived on as a new Star Inn was incorporated into the then new Times Furnishing buliding on approximately the same site. Sadly both Times Furnishing and the Star have since been demolished, and the site is now occupied by the new Co-op and Hotel complex building, built about 2021.
