New Mill

The New Mill was situated at the junction of the High Street and London Road. It was built in 1870 and rebuilt after a fire in 1909. The last record I have of it was 1937.

I was on the way back and forward to school during a week in late 1969 early 1970 and watching as it was gradually demolished. It was to make way for the new Romford ring road. Only months previous I can remember looking through the open door and seeing people drinking in there.
The pub was to be exact on the corner of Waterloo Road and London Road. It was where the Allen Ford showroom now stands.
