Lord Westwood

The Lord Westwood was situated on Wicken Way.

This pub was situated at the start of the Hampton Court shopping centre in Westwood opposite what used to be Freemans warehouse. It was officially opened by Lord Westwood who was the Chairman of Newcastle United at that time (he was famous for wearing a patch over one eye) sometime in 1969, although it had been open for business before then. The first landlord was ‘Tom’ Boler (I never knew what his real Christian name was) from the late sixties until well into the 1970s.
After a shooting incident the pub was closed down, but opened sometime later as a private club/pub under a new name, the Westwood Herald Club. It was eventually knocked down in 2013 and houses built in its place.
