The Heron

The Heron was situated in Heron Court, Southfields Drive. This was an estate pub which opened in 1959 with one large bar/lounge and a function room. The pub had an extensive refurbishment in 1987 and became a very popular pub once again with live bands and entertainment being laid on regularly. However, as the 21st century approached the popularity of the pub declined and the state of the pub left a lot to be desired. In 2013 speculation was rife that the pub was to be demolished and turned into flats. The pub closed down for a while but was reopened in April 2014 by Meri Hyde and after a refurbishment by a real ale loving team, who introduced a range of local ales to the pub (Tydd Steam, Castor Ales etc), they were accepted into the Oakademy scheme. Their success was rewarded with a Gold Award by the local CAMRA branch in April 2015. However, the rumours that the pub was to be demolished for housing never went away and the pub closed its doors for good in September 2018 and was subsequently demolished. The site where the Heron pub used to stand now has eight houses on it.
