The Golden Lion was situated at 27 High Street. This pub is now in retail use.

I was born in March, and am now 66. I remember the Golden Lion from when I was around 16/17 years old. Obviously, at that age, I was not allowed into the main pub, but I remember that they had a function room at the back of the pub that we hired for a 6th form party (I think) from the Neale-Wade school. Remember a lot of drinking went on, and a good time altogether. From what little I remember of the front, it had a central main door opposite the market place, roughly where the middle of the current butchers store is now.
