The Rising Sun was
situated on Apthorpe Street. This pub closed c1956 - my late father
was the last individual to drink there. The pub was in the process of
closing when he was building the family house about 50 yds away. The
publican walked up the road to get bottles of beer from the Six Bells (High
Street). He went in a couple of consecutive days before they asked if he
'would be in tomorrow' - to which he said 'yes' and asked why. They
explained the pub was closing and he was the only customer and they had to
get some beer in - he then said not to bother and he'd just walk 100yds the
other way to the 'Bells. |
