White Hart

Date of photo: c1915

The White Hart was situated on the Market Place. This pub is now in retail use. Publican in 1916 was Thomas Hood.

I am an ancestor of Thomas Hood, who was the publican of the White Hart Hotel, Ely in 1916. Tom was a professional golfer up to the commencement of WW1 in 1914 when he gave up this profession to run the White Hart. In 1920 he returned to professional golf briefly before he purchased the Bridge Hotel in St. Neots in 1923. Tom and his wife ran the Bridge Hotel until it was flooded in 1947. Tom retired to Worlington where he died in 1959.
