Turpin Spoils Found
Hidden In Coat For Nearly 200 Years
After nearly 200 years, proceeds of Dick Turpin robberies have come to
light.
Jewellery and money, pistols and a mask have been found in the lining of a
coat left by the highwayman at the Three Tuns Inn, Cambridge, when he fled
from Runners on January 12, 1739.
A letter signed by the landlord of the Three Tuns declares that the clothes
were left behind by Turpin, who was hanged at York four months later. |
