The Racehorse, Cambridge

The Racehorse was situated on Newmarket Road and has now been demolished with a as a McDonalds restaurant built on the site. This pub closed in 1999.
From 1881 Census the Publican was my ancestor John Cleaver who also was a clay pipe maker. The Cambridge Folk Museum does have one of his clay pipes in storage (used to be out on display).

Ray Higgins 1970s Trying to remember the name of a group that played the Race Horse Pub in Cambridge in the 1970’s. The group comprised of Big Mick Downs Butch, Big Dougie, Little Dougie& Bill. They always signed off with “Glad All Over” a tribute to Gladys((the landlady) and the landlord was Arthur. My now wife was Lyn who was a barmaid and my sister, brother in law and myself used to help the group set up and pack away ther gear at the pub..
