The Rising Sun was situated at 290 Kirkstall Road.
This pub is now used as an antique shop. |

When I first came to Leeds to
find student accommodation in summer 1993 I visited this pub to get some
lunch. They had stopped serving food so I was making do with a pint when the
landlady came out with a huge bread cake ham sandwich for free. Where I came
from in the south this would never have happened, I was taken aback to say
the least. 19 years later I am still in Leeds,
unfortunately this great pub is no more. I visited it in the years in
between and the decline was sad and drawn out. I remembered visiting it on a
Thursday night when half the pub was in darkness. Great pub with huge rooms
and massive potential, especially with the cinema etc across the road. It’s
a real shame to see it as a thrift shop. |
