The New Inn was situated on Greenside. |

I remember in the mid to late 50s , I was about
ten, taking old pop and beer bottles to the backdoor, which opened onto the
corner of the main bar which was ran by john little, also known as little
john to his customer`s, where he would reluctantly give us some coppers
back, the layout as I discovered a few years later consisted of the small
corner main bar at the rear of the building with a window into a largish tap
room, opposite across the main corridor that ran from the front door was a
comfortable large music room, with bells and waiter served, next door across
from the end of the bar was a tiny snug that just about allowed you and your
girlfriend/wife in. A fine old pub that was always packed in those days, I
belive that John Little was followed by Stewart Kitson and his wife in the
early 70s, and under them it was modernised into the pub it was until it was
pulled down and replaced by a pizza take away and flats. |
