The Coach & Horses was situated on Stane Street.
This pub was used as a Chinese restaurant following closure; this in turn
has also closed. |

As a 19 year old I worked and lived at
the Coach and Horses in Maudlin. Westhampnett In the hot summer of 1976.
It was owned by Ben Warriss (OF Ben Warriss and Jimmy Jewel fame) And his
wife. The actress Virginia Vernon. The pub was a celebrity haunt which a
treasure trove of famousactors and actresses who lived in the area and were
close friends of the Warriss's. One regular was the famous actor and
heartthrob John Bentley who played Hugh Mortimer in Crossroads and of Paul
Temple fame. There were many more and lots more stories. I have some
personal experiences of my time there too. The pub had an excellent
restaurant and hosted wedding receptions. This pub is is of great historical
and cultural significance. |
