The Fountain

The Fountain was situated at 211 Lower Clapton Road.

This pub was present by Clapton Pond at least by 1817, probably earlier.  It was a Watney’s Brewery pub in its day, later becoming a free house and rather limping along in its latter days before finally closing in 2007.

Donna Brebner 1984/1985  I worked in this pub whilst I was on my OE from New Zealand. I had a great time and met some lovely people. The Governor and his wife Shirley and Jim, their daughter Pauline and son Richard became good friends. I have lost contact with them which is really sad.
