Bird In Hand

The Bird In Hand was situated at 126 Bow Road. This pub was present by 1772, by which time it was already owned by the Truman’s Brewery, who were to retain ownership for the rest of the pub’s history.  In these early days, this pub had its own skittle ground.  The pub survived in to the late-1980s, but had closed by 1991.  The premises are now demolished, with flats built on the site (see above photo).
