The Star & Garter was situated at 233 Whitechapel Road. This small pub was established by 1839 and closed in 2001.  It had been a Charrington’s Brewery pub, but was purchased by the Charles Wells Brewery of Bedford in 1991.  The premises are now in use as yet another fast food outlet.
