The Windmill Inn was situated at 24 Wigan Road. This grade-II listed building is to be converted into student accommodation.
I hardly ever ever went in the Windmill, as it wasn't a real ale provider, but for some years it had a good social vibe, with quizzes and things and live music in the garden in the summer months - including a spell when some of the student community did "adopt" it. Again, it must be about 5 years since it stopped operating and it looks in a sorry state, though has planning permission for housing. I think the intention was to renovate and not pull down the building, but the longer it lies empty and undeveloped, the less likely that must be. It was well known locally for its bowling green too, so Ormskirk and district bowls players would be a good source of background information.
