The Market Hotel was situated at 9
Newgate Street. This pub is now used as a charity shop. |
|
Jack Lowson (from Morley near
Cockfield) and his wife Muriel (my aunt), ran the Market Hotel opposite
Doggarts shop at the bottom of Newgate St in the 1950s. I was taken there -
a real spittoon an sawdust place - as a small boy (I'm 77 now). They had a
beer sipping dog which was fed by the customers and ended up literally
legless (it couldn't stand up) - at afternoon closing time. |
