Ancient Druids, Cambridge

The Ancient Druids was situated at 34 Fitzroy Street. This pub was closed in 1982 as part of the Grafton Centre redevelopment. Publican in 1916 was George Banes.
I and some friends used to hold informal meetings in the original Ancient Druids in Fitzroy Street c. 1974-76. I took the late Colin Murray, chief of a London Druid group we were associated with,  there on one occasion. He was impressed by the signboard showing two Druids with sickles and mistletoe standing in front of Stonehenge. Later in 1986, my group held the first of several Scot-Ales there at the winter solstice in the modern Ancient Druids. We have held Scot-Ales at every winter solstice since then (out of doors during lockdown) , moving to other bubs when the second Ancient Druids closed.

From Syd Barrett & Pink Floyd: Dark Globe
Syd (Barrett) debuted with Those Without in July, playing bass and singing at The Blue Horizon Club inside The Guildhall. At band practice in The Ancient Druids pub on Fitzroy Street Syd played The Kinks' brand new single 'You Really Got Me' repeatedly on the jukebox.
