The Rock Tavern was situated at 20 Dixon Lane. This
pub is now used as a butchers shop. |
|
My grandfather Sam Wilde was the licensee from 1930, until he retired. It
was closed, becoming a Dewhirsts butchers, in 1972. Sam Wilde's
father was the licensee prior to Sam, who was born in the pub. In my time
drinking in the Rock, (late 1960s early 1970s) the beer was branded
Whitbread Trophy, but it was actually Tennants from Sheffield. The finest
beer I have ever tasted. |
