The Phoenix

Stained glass window of pub.

The Phoenix was situated at 2 Charles Street on the corner with Union Street. By 1974 it had been handed over to the Sheffield City Polytechnic Students Union. When the students union took possession of the Nelson Mandela Building, circa 1978, they gave it back to the Council The main bar of the Nelson Mandela was called the Phoenix in remembrance. It was demolished and replaced by the First Point building. I believe the pub sign did go to the Students Union but do not know what happened to it
