Mulberry Tavern

The Mulberry Tavern was situated on Arundel Gate. This pub closed in the 1990s.

The original Mulberry Tavern was on Mulberry Street behind Arundel Gate and was possibly the 2nd oldest pub in Sheffield (2nd only to the 15thC Old Queen’s Head in Pond Street, thankfully still open) .  It was a lovely low-ceiling black beamed building, closed and demolished (much to our chagrin as my family used to visit in the late 1960s/early 1970s - as did several of the actors from the new Crucible Theatre) and rebuilt through to Arundel Gate as a modern ‘plastic’ mess.  I understand from reading the Sheffield Forum site that it is to be reopened shortly as “Affinity” – debate as to whether this will be a gay bar.”
