The Royal Oak was situated on Turnshaw Road. This pub closed in February 2025.  It had been closed since 2019 before being reopened in 2023 with new landlady, a former Olympic Diver (1992, 1996, 2000), Lesley Ward, and her husband Peter Tomlinson, following a refurbishment, but has now closed again.
