Warrenby Hotel

.
The Warrenby Hotel was situated on Tod Point Road. This pub was present by 1871 when the publican was Patrick Martin.

This pub was owned , perhaps built by him in prospect of trade from a growing steel industry close by and its visitors , by my grandfather William John Jones who died in his 50s . Subsequently my grandmother Rhoda Ellen continued to run the hotel but it seems the Great Depression had already taken its toll on the business . My grandfather , who I am told fell dead on Middlesbrough rail station , was also a director of Middlesbrough Football Club . When it finally closed I do not know but its curtilages were used as a car scrapyard at one time in the 60s . It became derelict at some point and was known , courtecy of some local wag , as The Stump .
