The Tap & Barrel was situated at 86 Newport
Road. This pub is now used as a restaurant. |

This building has totally
different memories for me as it was my fathers tobacconist shop in the
1950’s. He owned ‘Adams Tobacconist’ at 97 Newport Rd and opened this shop
as ‘Smokers Corner’ ot long before his sudden death at the age of 43 yrs in
December 1960 leaving a widow and four young sons. My Dad was Councillor
