Magnet Hotel
|
|
|
The Magnet Hotel was situated on
Birchington Avenue. This pub closed in 2016. It was where Roy 'Chubby' Brown
played his first ever gig. It is now up for auction with planning permission
for conversion to seven flats. |
|
Despite having been granted planning permission
for conversion to 7 apartments, and being sold in 2022 for £75k, no
development has taken place, the property remains boarded up, and a peaceful
public demonstration was held outside on 7 April 2024 to protest against the
development. |

A further application to convert the property
into a place of worship has been rejected by the planners on the basis of
"highway safety grounds": the need for more parking than is planned/space
available and the increased traffic around the area. 400 objections were
received by the planning authority. |
