The Peacock was situated on Harrogate Road near the Fountain fish and chip shop. The original pub, which dated from 1790 was demolished in 1935 and the new building was erected close by. In 1983 the Peacock became a nightspot called Images. The building was demolished in 1992 and Peacock Court, a block of flats, was built on the site.

My aunt and uncle, Pauline & Henry Barker, ran this pub in the late 1930s and early 1940s. My mother lived there for a few years and had her wedding reception there in 1941. Pauline re-married and moved to the Queens Hotel, Apperley Bridge. According to my mother the Peacock was quite the place to go in those days, it had a restaurant/ballroom and there was live music for dancing.
