Albert Inn

The Albert Inn was situated at 71 South Accommodation Road.

In 1968, having just left schooI, I worked at West Yorkshire Foundries and remember the Albert Inn. It was a favourite pub (Tetley's) for the Foundry Workers as the beer was always spot on - even in hot weather it was perfect and they said it was due to its deep cellars, nicknamed 'The Pocket Ole' due maybe to its small size and pokey little rooms.Other pubs used were the Brookfield (Tetley's) and occasionally the Black Bull on Black Bull Street (John Smith's) which had a large room which proved to be handy whenever strikes (frequent) occurred. There were many other pubs in the vicinity, mostly Tetley's and an excellent Fish and Chip shop called 'Billy Walton's'. I was only a 'kid' really and have happy memories of my time at the Foundry and appreciate in hindsight how they took me under their wing in a very much 'mans world'. Happy days indeed - bitter at 1/7d and mild 1/6d.
