The Bean

The Bean was situated on Bean Street.
I used to visit Hull on business three days a month from 1985 to 1998 and I visited The Bean, in Bean Street, Hull in the mid nineties (circa 1995). Having heard of it – I felt compelled.
I went early to mid-evening mid-week with Gavin P. a friend who lives in Hull. There were few customers. We bought pints and migrated to the pool table which was occupied by two girls I can best describe as ‘Ladies of the night’. They were initially suspicious of our friendly approach and our asking if we might join them in a game of doubles (they might have been on a break from ‘work’?) However they soon became friendly and we enjoyed their company over a few games (of pool) and a couple of pints before bidding them goodbye and good fortune and moving on to our usual haunt, the Blue Bell at Old Ellerby.
Why did I feel compelled to visit The Bean in Bean Street? My name is Roger Bean.
