Pointer Inn

The Pointer Inn was situated on Marchant Street.

I have been doing a little digging into my wife's family tree and I discovered your site. The Heptinstall family are a Castleford family and my wife's Great, Great Grandad was a man called George Heptinstall. He ran the Pointer Pub in Whitwood in the potteries district of Castleford. He lived there with his wife Louisa and 9 children in 1901. One of those children was Arthur, my wife's Great Grandad and another was Ernest who was killed in 1918 just outside Ieper in Belgium after being awarded the Military Medal. Our son James Ernest (aged 12 today) is named after him.
In later years, the Pointer ran a rugby league team and my father in law, Graham Heptinstall played for them. He was aware that there was a family connection with the pub but not of the exact details.
