The Lilycroft

The Lilycroft was situated at 74 Lilycroft Road. The original pub was demolished in 1967 and rebuilt. It is and is now used as an Asian textile outlet.

I used to live about 40 seconds walk from this pub in the 80s & early 90s and used it regularly. It was part brick and part prefabricated, a cheap way to build, but it still had a good atmosphere, especially the tap room. It was a Tetley house and in the first few years I used it it was run by a nice landlord called Joe who sported the best beer belly I'd ever seen. The beer was well kept and cheap for the area. It had a pool table, dart board and juke box and was very well patronised especially in the evenings and bank hols. It was a true 'local' and hub of the community...pity it's gone but I would think 95% of the locals don't drink alcohol for religious reasons.
