The Volunteer Hotel was situated on Green Lane. The house was converted to a beer house in 1865. Tom Priestley, brother of JB Priestley was landlord from 1906-1929 - his death. In 1954 the area was compulsorily purchased for redevelopment as council flats and the pub ceased trading in 1957.
