The Mannville Arms was situated at 31-33 Great Horton Road. this pub closed in 1995 and was converted to a Scruffy Murphys Irish pub and later called The Head. It is now used as a Costcutter store. The building dates from 1850-60 and is on the corner of Southbrook Terrace, which is Grade II Listed. It is said that David Hockney used the pub when he was a student at the Art College. During the 1970s and 1980s, the pub was prominent on the punk scene. Barbara Leach visited this pub, on the night of her murder at the hands of Peter Sutcliffe, The Yorkshire Ripper. On Sunday, 2nd September, 1979, at approximately 1am Sutcliffe witnessed her leaving her group of friends to head home. Sutcliffe waited for Barbara and murdered her in a back yard.

Lisa Frazer (Avison) 1980/1985 I began going to the Mannville Arms in 1980 upon commencement at Bradford College. I was gutted to find out recently that it was closed and was now a Costcutter! The Mannville Arms was my most favourite pub in Bradford, I met loads of friends there, the atmosphere was always buzzing with music, energy and life! It was an incredible atmosphere with a fab jukebox, every other song seemed to be Lynard Skynyrd's Free Bird.
