The last landlord and Landlady were Bill &
Thelma Acton who had the pub from 1968 until its closure in 1972 under
compulsory purchase from the Bradford City council to make way for the
Manchester Road widening project.
The pub was owned by Webster’s brewery and served Webster’s Best and Pennine
Bitter. The beer was traditional hand pulled. The pub consisted of a Tap
Room, home to an active darts and domino’s team, a small lounge and a music
room with a traditional juke box. During the period of Bill & Thelma’s
tenancy a Guinness tap was also introduced.
The pub also had a small bed & breakfast business catering primarily to
travelling salesmen and Geest truck drivers - 17 shillings & sixpence a
night. |
