Landlord / Landlady 1953 1958 was Jack & Evelyn Walmsley. Very busy on Sunday lunch, St Joseph’s church next door. Mainly Polish / Irish congregation enjoyed a drink after Mass. My dad used to send me over with Pound notes to exchange for change from collecting plate. My dad was also an accomplished pianist, you know ‘hum it and I’ll play it’ he always kept his hand on the pub piano. Also remember there was a woollen mill a little further up can’t remember the name but I can remember it burning down. Another source of custom.
Eric Walmsley (February 2019)
