There are records of the pub dating
back to 1850. In 1861 the innkeepers were William and Elizabeth Greaves. The
pub had a brew house when it was acquired by Thomas Ramsden & Son Ltd in
1881 from Lipton, Charnock & Co, Stone Trough Brewery, Halifax. The pub is
mentioned in reports of the funeral of Sir Titus Salt, former head constable
of Bradford and the founder of Saltaire, which is now a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. On 5 January 1877 his funeral cortège, watched by 100,000
lining the streets, was joined by a detachment of police at the Horse &
Trumpet. |
