Northgate Hotel

The Northgate Hotel was situated on
Northgate (now John Street). It has been demolished to make way for The
Oastler Centre (formerly the John Street Centre). Northgate was a very old
route north out of Bradford. Part of Northgate has been renamed James Gate,
part of it John Street but a small pedestrianised fragment of Northgate
still exists. |

My mother worked behind the bar in the late
1950s / early 1960s with a blonde lady called Dorothy. At the time Bradford
City used to put up their new signings at the Northgate and a certain John
McCole took a liking to Dorothy-he ended up being one of City’s all time top
scorers. |
