The Lancaster Hotel was situated at 154
Westgate.
This pub has now been demolished with a video advertising screen now
standing on the site. There are now no buildings directly on Westgate in
that area. |

My aunt and uncle, Bill and Blanche Galloway,
were publicans here. Not sure of exact dates but certainly from 1963 to
1972. The pub had a large public bar and a snug. Bill had been a wrestler
and had trained and wrestled with many of the familiar TV wrestlers of the
day. I was 14 and met Les Kellet who was with my uncle Bill. Aunty Blanche
always seemed to be behind the bar while uncle Bill was front of house. It
was very much a local pub with darts and domino nights. |
