The Angel

The Angel was situated on Highgate. This pub was once owned by a publican who was "an old man called Bland, who, with his daughters Grace and Prudence" ran the place. When Bland Senior died, the Angel didn’t last long. And when it shut, some `wag’ wrote on the door of the pub:

"Prudence and Grace dwelt in this place
An Angel kept the door:
Prudence is dead, the Angel fled
And Grace has turned-out a . . . . “
