The Old Bull & Butcher was situated on
Banbury
Road. |

My parents would take us there as kids because they had a large lawn at the
side with tables and drinks were served through a window hatch to the
customers outside. The pub was one of a number owned by
Hotelier/Restaurateur/Publican Bill James who lived in the village at Ryton
on Dunsmore. My first job after leaving School was at his Dilke Arms Hotel
also in Ryton. Bill James also owned the Dun Cow Hotel in Dunchurch and my
mother worked as his book-keeper. I was once sent to the Old Bull and
Butcher to clean the cellar when they were short of staff. My father and his
brothers met there regularly on a Sunday lunchtime up until it closed. It
was latterly used as an Indian Restaurant before being left empty and
falling into disrepair |
