Shakespeares Head

The Shakespeares Head was situated on
Constitution Hill. John Mousley, my gt.-gt.-grandfather, was publican here
in 1851. At one time said to be the tallest and strongest man in Birmingham,
he could hold a 56lb weight in each hand, both arms outstretched. He lost an
arm when handling alone a hogshead into his cellar (about 6cwt, normally a
4-man operation). He was said to have been very wild in his youth, and on
one occasion, for a bet, rolled a night-watchman in his box down
Constitution Hill. |
