The Dog & Partridge was situated at 62
Tindal Street. This was a legendary "characterful" pub on the corner of
Tidal and Homer Streets and was demolished in the 1980s to make way for
housing. It was a modest Victorian boozer comprising three small rooms all
served by one corner bar (one room served from a hatch at the end of the
bar). Each room had a specific clientele and if they fell out with each
other after an argument through the hatch or along the bar, they would go
out and break some windows of the other bar to make a point. Talk about
cutting your nose off to spite your face! The pub closed after such a night
and the police objected to its reopening. |
