White Horse

The White Horse was situated on St John
Street. |

I am reading 'The Diary of Thomas
Turner 1754-1756'. He was the parish overseer from East Hoathly (just one of
the many other things he did) and a frequent visitor to Lewes. When visiting
the town he always seemed to dine at The White Horse. On Tuesday 22nd
November 1757 he ate 'boiled hog's cheek, a piece of boiled beef, an apple
pudding, greens and potatoes'. Such a pity the pub is not there any more! I
tried to locate the building but without success. |
