The Ship

The Ship Inn was situated on the High Street. The Old Ship was originally two and possibly three cottages, later possibly a public house, later again a club, now a single house. Michael Trubshawe, a friend of actor Anthony Steel and a 6ft 6ins tall ex-army officer with a huge handlebar moustache owned the small residential club here. Pat Roc and Steel used the club to carry on a clandestine affair. Pat returned to England in 1952 so I'm assuming that the club existed in the 1950's but it seems likely it was 601 squadron's private club prior to this and during the war years when it is described in at least one reminiscence as a pub.
