Tony O'Toole 1960s I was in a proper rock and roll band . Bobby Angelo and the Tuxedos , it was a great time in my life playing there , and going on to make records at the Abby road studios ,st johns wood we had a hit record called Baby sitting ,
Gordon Coleman 1960s-1970s I remember many happy Sun eves in the Swan, listening to rock'n'roll bands. Tony with the Impalas was a big favourite.
Steve Davies 1974-1976 Tony &The Impalas. Great RnR trio, every Sun night. Gtr,Bass,Drums + Tongue tied Danny as D.J in breaks. Most South London pubs had real live 50s RnR around same era..great days ! Regular Customer.
Barry Wilson 1959-1960 Favourite haunt of the art students from nearby Art School in Knights Park. Also a venue for traditional Jazz started up by Mike Hardy & others because we had nowhere to go in Kingston on Saturday nights. I think it was originally called the "Surbiton New Musical Society" but soon changed its name. Pete King probably the best known musician started out here, only to move on to greater things once he had discovered Charlie Parker.
Val Chipping 1967-1971 Jive the night away to the Impalas. Great bikers pub. Herbie, Ronnie (donut)Rod.mad Maf ,tall Mac, Rebel . Used to bike down to Brighton pier for a cup of tea and backfor the heck of it. Amazing fun. Pub such a happy place. Sorry to see it has gone.
Stephen Hunt 1978-1983 My favourite pub on a Sunday night, when live Rock ‘n’ Roll band, The Impalas would play. I think it’s a solicitor’s office now, or something equally boring. The Stray Cats turned up there one week on motorbikes.
Lynne Ellis 1958-1970 Leo & Joyce Henderson my parents were landlords of the Swan. Took over in 1958 and left in 1970 moved to Corrnwall. Used to listen to the Impalas every weekend, with rockin rollers and teddie boys including uncle Bob, bopping the weekend away. Loads of motor bikes blocking the road and alley way. Also went on coach to Gene Vincent tour at the Paladium where the Impalas also played. Very special good times gone bye
