The Row Barge was situated on Old Bridge Street.
This pub was present by 1881 when the publican was Stephen Toghill. |

I used to drink in here at lunchtime
when I was at school and having a Saturday job at Bentalls department store.
Landlord was a great chap who was always friendly towards us young people.
Played roadrunner by junior walker and the allstars incessantly on the juke
box. Drank bitter, vodka and limes and rum and barley wine!!!!! very fond
memories of this wonderful pub. |

My aunt and uncle ran the pub in the
1950s. I remember playing there with my cousin when I was about 9 years old.
I tried cockles for the first time (never again!) I believe I stayed the
night, but it was 65 years ago, so memories can deceive. I had very little
to do with these relatives. I don't remember ever seeing them again. My aunt
was called Winnie, I think my uncle was Bill. |
