Olde Bucks Head

The Olde Bucks Head was situated on Frankwell. This grade-II listed pub closed in January 2023.

Listed building details:
Public house. Probably originally C16-C17 refaced C18 and incorporating a former shop of c1800. Painted brick over timber-frame with plain tiled roof. Main range is 1 1/2 to 2 storeys, irregularly fenestrated. Central entry to rear courtyard enlarged C20. Left hand section probably formerly dwelling, with round-arched doorway to right and 4-pane sash window alongside. Small possible fire window to right, and two 4-pane sash windows above, interrupting string course. Inserted dormer window cuts the eaves. Square-panelled timber-framing visible in side wall. Main part to right of carriage entry, with early C19 front, a central door flanked by very shallow canted bay windows with small panes, and continuous architrave over, partly concealing string course. Traces of blocked openings to right, including single ring segmental head of possible former doorway, and 12-pane sash window to right. 3 dormer windows in the roof. Gable end and axial stacks. To the right, a building of the early C19 is now incorporated. 3 storeys, single-window range, projecting forward of the earlier building line. Early C19 shop front with doorway to left and small-paned window with architrave and fascia over. 16-pane (9-pane to attic storey) sash window above with flat-arched gauged brick head. Gable end stack. Lower bay to right possibly formerly passage now infilled with doorway to
ground floor. 4-pane sash window above.
