White House

The White House was situated on the corner of Abbey Road and Botley Road. This pub closed in 2007 and is now used as TheOne, a fusion bar. Not to be confused with the pub of the same name on Abingdon Road.
This pub was previously known as The Old Gatehouse and was built around the old toll house on the old Botley Road. The walls in the cellar were several feet thick.

Although TheOne is mostly a restaurant the room nearest the station is a "games bar", and serves lager and other beers to customers who are mostly there to watch football on TV. Not a great pub now, but not the worst.

Closed again on 24th December 2022.

Review from tantallon.org.uk:
Odd place this. Half of it is a rather fine restaurant, one of my Oxford favourites, in blue with spotless narrow navy blue venetian blinds, good filling food (huge menu, proper restauranty things) and about £25 a head (not including wine, which varies between £6 and £30 a bottle) for three courses.
One end of it is a no-smoking bar with pot plants and blue furniture.
The other half is pink, and described on a sign as the White House Bar. It's dark, smoky and at bottom the wrong colour for a pub. It's guaranteedtrade through being next to the station. This evening (2000-11-12) therewere loud people snorting vodka from an inverted wine glass heated with a lighter.
Standard cask ales in place of the guests from Wychwood there used to be years ago.
