The Star Inn was situated at 52 Cornmarket Street
by the entrance to the Clarendon Shopping Centre. It was an important
coaching inn in the 18th century and was incorporated into the Clarendon
Hotel in 1863. Both were demolished in 1954. The site is marked by a blue
plaque inscribed "In 1794 at The Star Inn near this site The Oxfordshire
Yeomanry (Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars) was formed". |
